so
this internet cafe i’ve been hanging out in
there’s this huge widescreen TV
and all sorts of people
through the time i sit here
come in and plop down and watch it
it’s usually on the news channel
so it’s
news news news
and commercials
something about dick cheney rapping
and other crap
i’m alright with ignoring it
because
at the angle i sit
i can’t see the screen
but what has been pulling my attention
is clips of music.
some (insurance?) company is using a bit of The Postal Service’s “Such Great Heights”
talking all corporate crap
some animal shelter
using Sarah McLachlan’s song about an angel
some other company using DNTEL’s “Last Song’s” (totally random, that’s what first caught me)
and to top it all
the news group here is using the dark guitar shift from Radiohead’s “Paranoid Android” as there “coming back to the news” jingle.
is it just Hawaii that’s doing this?

I haven’t heard “Paranoid Android” (that would freak me out!), but yeah… Iron and Wine remade The Postal Service’s song and it’s being used in advertising. Luckily, for me, I HATE that Sarah McLachlan song… but I did find it odd.
Let’s be honest… we are at the age where ad execs are going to appeal to use using our culture as a weapon against us.
I am so glad I have a decentralized music listening base.
