i was talking on the phone with Jorge while the sun was setting
yesterday
a sea turtle had come up to rest in the sand
as a child
turtles were my favourite creatures
oh… and frogs
so I was so happy to see this tortoise
I sat next to her
sang a little
talked with her
she was sleepy
I’d promised Jorge I’d up a picture but ran off to pick up Leo from
the air port
so… just remembered

It was funny to see this photo here because I was standing at the bus stop this morning singing an old song about a tortoise on a lotus flower.
I now need to go look up what the difference is between turtles and tortoises… Hope your gal got back out to sea once the tide came in.

Good morning!!! Awww, the turtle is so adorable! She might have been laying eggs? That’s so great that you were talking and singing to her.
I loved turtles as a kid too. I liked setting up little terrariums for them, with colorful stones and miniature ponds. These turtles were very small…I loved their yellow and green multicolored skin and their teeny eyelids.
My aunt Catín had an enormous turtle. She had bought it in a pet shop in New York, and once the turtle crawled out the window of her apartment and landed on the sidewalk! She ran outside thinking she might have lost her dear pet, but the turtle was alive and well, and my aunt brought her to Puerto Rico when she moved. The turtle lived to be about 40 years old.
