do you remember the movie “Magnolia”?
the sound track was great for me
as cheesy as it sounds
i’ve had this song stuck in my head since i was behind the wheel of a car again last week
”
At least you know
You were taken by a pro
I know just how you feel
She talked a perfect game
Deflecting all the blame
You took the jack
And changed the flat
And got behind the wheel–
Now you’re
Driving sideways
Taken in by the scenery
As you’re propelled along
And your companion
Will not help you to navigate
For fear she may be wrong
And you will say
That you’re making headway
And put it in overdrive
But you’re mistaking speed
For getting what you need
And never even noticing
You never do arrive
Cause you’re
Driving sideways
If you roll down the window you’ll see
You’re where you don’t belong
And your companion
Will not help you to navigate
For fear she may be wrong
And you’re powered by
The hopeful lie
That it’s just around the bend
And when this, by default
Comes screeching to a halt
Let’s hope that you
Know what to do
To start it up again
Driving sideways
Hitting scan on the radio
So she can sing along
And she’ll sit
Thinking you’re going to handle it
Until she’s proven wrong
Until she’s proven wrong
Until you prove her wrong
”

and i’m a gemini
so even though the song is all about a relationship
for me
.. it’s all about me.
er… us..
me.
well
in the same vein
i’ve really been feeling this as well
”
Fox in the snow, where do you go
To find something you can eat?
Cause the word out on the street is you are starving
Don’t let yourself grow hungry now
Don’t let yourself grow cold
Fox in the snow
Girl in the snow, where will you go
To find someone that will do?
To tell someone all the truth before it kills you
They listen to your crazy laugh
Before you hang a right
And disappear from sight
What do they know anyway?
You read it in a book
What do they know anyway?
You’ll read it in a book tonight
Boy on the bike, what are you like
As you cycle round the town?
You’re going up, you’re going down
You’re going nowhere
It’s not as if they’re paying you
It’s not as if it’s fun
At least not anymore…
When your legs are black and blue
It’s time to take a break
When your legs are black and blue
It’s time to take a holiday
Kid in the snow, way to go
It only happens once a year
It only happens once a lifetime
Make the most of it
Second just to being born
Second to dying to
What else could you do?

I love Aimee. She likes to box. Her new stuff is about a boxer. But she’s really, really thin. I love Driving Sideways. She’s an awesome songwriter.

I loved Magnolia. And Aimee Mann is a brilliant singer/songwriter. I saw her in concert a couple years back, at the Moore Theater here in Seattle. One of the best concerts I’ve ever attended. 🙂
