fragment of a conversation at dinner last night lead to this:
because all good distractors have recursion in them
something too heavy to deal with
a light flight of fantasy
to carry you away
and bring you home again
“sometimes you have to go a long distance out of the way
so you can come back a short distance correctly”
what you couldn’t deal with looking at from one angle
looks manageable from another

your blog comment
hey thanks for making my day with the Coil – Stolen & Contaminated Songs comment over on ICOOYS blog. That’s funny because I was about the same age when I stumbled across that album and it left a permanent disturbing scar on my psyche. One of the strangest pieces of music ever produced (and that’s saying something, considering its the REworks of the already strange Love’s Secret Domain). Cheers and thanks again!

Re: your blog comment
Yeah… you know that song “Things Happen” on LSD?
i heard it last night for the first time in ten years or something
(i’ve been traveling the world 12 years and had to let go of all my CDs very early on.. heavy bitches)
THAT song terrified me
it still does
but i can laugh at it now
it’s the perfect allegory of most people’s lives
fucked up and confused and lamely manipulating people around them
occasionally flickering into consciousness
“maybe it’s getting late? maybe time is running out.”
and the sound layers…
they’re fucking amazing
it was fun to hang out with JB’s ex lover in london last year
see someone so heartbroken and touched about one of music’s biggest monsters…
but i loved TG as well back then
mmmm
you’ve got a great blog
i’m so happy the internet is revolving to people being able to post entire albums (even discographies: i found a link with about 15 albums on it from poland… most of the links were dead already, but that’s where i got LSD– hadn’t heard it in ages… really wanted the SNOW EP and Musick to listento in the dark (both parts) but those links were dead)
thank YOU so much for putting that post up there
i’ll be checking back in to see what else you’ve got going on

Re: your blog comment
I’ve got the SNOW EP and Musick To Listen To In The Dark, as well as the Windowpane EP (LOVE IT! one of my alltime favorites) around somewhere. I’m sure I can find you the links once I get my mind together.
Interesting chatting with you. Are you in the UK or US? I heard TG by accident as I picked up a station from Towson, MD back when I was around 13 and they were playing Hamburger Lady. From that point on, I was hooked and obsessed with all things Industrial, TG or Coil-related. cheers.

Re: your blog comment
p.s. I’m slow to this livejournal phenomenon. plz send me an email steve_pmx@yahoo.com so that I can keep track of the individual Coil pieces you were having trouble finding, and then find them for you.
p.p.s. cheers for using the word “beardy” in one of your other posts. Yes, I’m now officially e-stalking you. And your friend Jorge has just a mere fraction of the body hair that I possess. Don’t make me scare you with a picture, because I will~!

Oh. i’m in the US
i lived in the UK for year when i was 17
and it kicked my ass out of the rut of Indiana i grew up in
so i travelled around the world for 12 years
and just this year i decided to fucking root down for a bit
so got an apartment in NYC
la la la
coz i can leave easily enough (all roads…)
right now i’m in Puerto Rico with a mate
Where are you?
I was very into all the darkness as a teenager
self destruction and burning the world down
lots of drugs
i got lost in the desert when i was 19 (arizona)
on acid/mushrooms
and that started a series of melt-downs over the next year or two
where i decided i needed to balance things
which threw me a little into all that white light shit for a while
i was in California
but then i balanced back from that
and now i still like feeling like i can tweak reality
sometimes add more light
sometimes add more dark:
whatever is necessary…
life feeds on life feeds on life feeds on life
Yeah, i’d love to hear those EPs again, whenever THANKS

Re: your blog comment
I’m in DC. Indeed the District of Corruption. Been here my entire life. Love it and hate it simultaneously, as with most aspects of life and living.
Somewhat abused as a child, I turned inward and found fire and heavy metal (later, hardcore and industrial/techno) to be my saviour. Malitov cocktails were the theme du jour before the age of 15 when I nearly caught a heavy arson charge. Then it was Catholic high school in VA for the next few years, where I blossomed and perfected the art of subversively flirting with priests to get to the head of my class. Kinda creepy looking back, but they were the creepy ones – I just used it to my advantage.
The drug ‘experimentation’ started at the age of 14 – weed and acid. I took that to the next level and the next level and the next level until after college was busted on 2 DUIs in 2 weeks, which led to rehab and prison. After that, I cleaned up my act (wink wink) and now I’m just being very careful and considerate of myself and those around me. I’ve just turned 31 on Xmas Eve, and I too have found my balance of dark and light and I wake up daily on the cusp of the light/dark horizon. Would love to meet up for a drink of tea or coffee or whatnot next time I’m in NYC (nearly all my friends have moved to BK or LA – and I HATE L.A. so those friends don’t get visits from me).
Been a DJ since the age of 15 – started the music blog about a year ago, which I now run with my older brother. I started it out mainly to post industrial/etc. but it has evolved into a Dub Reggae monster. And that’s my life now! Working as a Research Assistant for HUD (Housing/Urban Development) at the moment, and it gives me plenty of time to catch up on sleep while in the office. About to get some right now…… zzzzzzz
