but parents near death’s door
cannot spend a night NOT staring at the blaring box
even when their son
who they rarely see once a year
comes to visit
their son
and a friend, even
the TV must be on at all times
it’s a sad as watching a junkie with a yen

the coffee fiends who drink the shrillest schwill to quiet their need
making their breath and pores stink of addiction

people burning badly

skin oozing nicotiene and tar
mouth tasting like death
what used to look “intelligent” and “interesting” to me
now looks like a desperate fix
— And i come to visit my parents
i’m only going to be here two nights
and first thing back from dinner
they’re setting up to watch TV
right

Some friends of mine appear to be TV-addicts! When ever I visit them and we’re in the living room, the TV gets turned on. It’s such a distraction to meaningful conversation!

i’m never around a TV unless i’m being subjected to it
or i’m watching a movie…
i’m like an animal
i cannot NOT stare at it
my brain can’t focus
i can’t imagine what it’s like for people who have it on all the time
never being able to complete a thought…
how can we talk?
how can we be present with eachother when there’s the whole manic world spazing out for our attention right there?
and i feel we’re right to be angry they’re not paying enough attention to us

it’s insulting to have it on when i’m there
especially when someone says they love me and doesn’t get to see me often

when i went up to live with Leo
i tried to fix a TV someone had given to him
simply because it was paired with a VCR
well, the VCR was broken
and that’s all i wanted from it…
but when i tried to fix it i broke the whole thing..
Leo and i agreed
the TV was better broken:
we took it out to the trash heap.
