” this was a factory
now it’s a peaceful oasis ”
” this was a discount store
now it’s turned into a corn field ”
” we used to barbeque
now we just eat nuts and berries ”
” and as things fell apart
nobody paid much attention ”
” don’t leave me standing here
i can’t get used to this lifestyle “

my memory was faulty
i put some lines together
but liked them
here are the correct ones from my amalgamations
” Once there were parking lots
Now it’s a peaceful oasis ”
” There was a factory
Now there are mountains and rivers ”
” We used to microwave
Now we just eat nuts and berries “

Even if it wasn’t my favourite period for the band, that’s one of my mostest favouritest tracks from them. Those lyrics hit me in my teens, and it was one of the first times I noticed the irony of using such a beautiful song against lyrics about such a grim situation.

oh, one of my other favourite parts from that:
” Years ago
i was an angry young man
i’d pretend
that i was a billboard
standing tall
by the side of the road
i fell in love
with the beautiful High Way ”
amazing.

Re: one more
The three lines of that very wise song, which speak to me:
– Years ago, I was an angry young man
– Thought that we’d start over, but I guess I was wrong
– I miss the candy bars, honky-tonk and 7-11
Great stuff!
Peace be with you.
